Founded in 1990, Stance Dual is a multilingual school that has already graduated hundreds of critical and creative youths who have studied here from preschool until the end of middle school.  Within a warm, welcoming environment surrounded by an ample green space, which is a unique urban oasis, our educational project promotes the social, emotional and intellectual growth of our students, fully preparing them for their next steps of their development.

Local Roots, Global Wings
The phrase that sums up the Stance Dual brand of multilingual education is: Local Roots, Global Wings. We want that our students have a broad understanding of Brazilian history and culture, through the Portuguese language, constructing their identities and valuing the richness around them.  At the same time, we also want them to broaden their horizons by learning concepts from many different subjects in the English language, in an integrated, multilingual educational project.

Multidisciplinary Curriculum
Beyond striving for academic excellence in all curricular disciplines, taught in Portuguese and English, our program includes developing students technologically (maker projects, entrepreneurism, games, etc.), artistically (visual arts, music, theater, etc.) and ethically (dialogue forums, social projects, etc.).  We also place a high value on promoting our students’ health and well-being (physical education, swimming, healthy lunch, etc.).  Independent of the subject, all of our pedagogic studies start off with contextualized, real life situations, which demand strategic knowledge for problem solving.

Critical Perspective & Active Participation
Our educational approach departs from the principle of the social construction of knowledge, in which the interaction between students with cultural and historical knowledge is fundamental, as well as the possibility of critically positioning themselves towards it.  In this process, various perspectives and points of view are discussed, always taking into consideration students’ realities.  Beyond this, at Stance, the moral and ethical dimensions of the curricular contents are brought to light in order to work with social-emotional questions and human relationships based on a value of cultural plurality.

The Advantages of an Extended School Day
Our work to develop students culturally and multilingually includes Spanish classes (beginning in Year 2) and sign language (an optional class in middle school).  Another important differential at Stance is the possibility of an extended school day (to be the full day at school).  Students can participate in a vast array of after school activities or stay in the after school care offered at no additional cost, with the option of taking part in craft, gardening and TED-ED activities.

Our Graduates’ Success
The fruits of our work are visible in our ex-students that have moved onto to high school in well-respected schools nationally and internationally, many in which Stance has forged partnerships.  With almost 30 years as a pioneering school in bilingual education, many of our ex-students are in university (here and abroad) or are already brazing trails in the careers of their choice in Brazil and throughout the world, demonstrating a continual evidence of the success of the academic, ethical and multilingual basis constructed in the foundational years of our ex-students’ school life.
