ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL
Trilingual, Multidisciplinary, Full-Day School
Elementary school is the beginning of more formal studies, which become increasingly more sophisticated over time, without leaving behind a diversified curriculum that includes art, music, sports, swimming, drama and cooking. Our team of highly experienced and well-educated teachers work with our reputable, original curriculum, which immerses children in real life situations in order to make sense of complex, abstract concepts across multiple disciplines in meaningful ways. With a full day of school balanced between instruction in English and in Portuguese, along with Spanish as a third language from age 7 onwards, our students develop into competent, multilingual people ready to take on the challenges of our contemporary globalized world.
Local Roots, Global Wings
This is the Stance Dual School motto that summarizes our 30 years of valuing Brazilian history and culture, as well as the Portuguese language, in equilibrium with the English language, global cultures and the history of humanity in our integrated, multilingual educational project.
Academic, Social-emotional & Physical Development
Within our ample campus replete with green, outdoor areas, our students have the opportunity to engage in a full range of pedagogic spaces from our science lab, maker spaces, tech lab, art studios, library, swimming pool, chess and games area, courts and gardens, as well as classrooms. All of our spaces are learning spaces for students academic, social-emotional and physical development.
Critical Thinking & Investigation
The beginning of elementary school is an important period in children’s lives as they more formerly learn foundational academic skills such as reading, writing, mathematical problem solving and scientific inquiry. As the starting point of the teaching and learning process, our students are immersed in real life situations to develop their understanding of complex, abstract concepts in a meaningful way. In the later years of middle school, students conduct in-depth academic research projects about contemporary issues of their interest resulting in the publication of articles, posters and speeches.
Autonomy, Protagonism & Empathy
As our students gain autonomy, they are afforded many opportunities to share responsibility in their school life. Students lead classroom meetings in which they are the protagonists for resolving their own problems as a group and school-wide assemblies where they share their learning with across grade levels on commonly studied themes.
Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Our curriculum is based on interdisciplinary, multilingual projects that integrate technology, centered on its safe and ethical use. Students become digitally literate and develop entrepreneurial skills that afford them the possibility of creating their own projects. Students regularly utilize the Maker Space to develop their projects inspired by STEAM and Design Thinking methodologies to innovate solutions to contemporary problems.
International and National Pedagogic Field Studies Programs
Stance organizes many national and international pedagogic field study programs that afford students immersive experiences for reflection on social, cultural and environmental transformations in the field. These programs amplify students knowledge of curricular contents in multilingual, interdisciplinary projects throughout their studies at Stance. The international programs include trips to Argentina, United States and Canada.
Education of the Whole Person
Stance educates students poised to meet the social-emotional, physical and cognitive challenges of the present and future with a critical, creative and entrepreneurial approach. Our students learn how to learn and how to solve problems together with others. They become ethical, responsible human beings who take an active, committed stance in society as competent multilingual global citizens.
