Milk - Y1

(Cooking Project for plant-based milk)

This semester one of our projects was for MILK, so that our Y1 students could see that milk can come from animals but also from plants. We explored a variety of recipes and divided the classes into groups so that each group could make milk from a different kind of plant. They watched a presentation explaining the properties of each kind and the methods used to obtain the milk for each case. Then we all got to work, making our recipes and trying and comparing them. To make each recipe more attractive, we combined the milk with a variety of fruit or spices. Surprisingly, one of the most popular recipes was the oat milk with strawberries.

INGREDIENTS
1 - cups rolled oats
1 - cup RICE (uncooked)
1 - cup almonds, chopped
1 - cup unsweetened shredded coconut
1 - cup crushed CASHEW NUTS
1 - YAM

METHOD
Some ingredients should be previously softened. Cook yams; leave rice, almonds and crushed cashews soaking in container with water overnight to soften. In blender, get 1 cup of your ingredient (in class use ½ a cup or less) and add 3 cups of water (in class use 1 cup of water) and blend. Add dates to almonds and oats; strawberries or cocoa powder to oats; strawberries to rice and coconut; cocoa to yam. Then the students will receive individual portions to filter.
